Quick Tip No. 1 | Rug Size
Today I have a quick interior design tip to share, and its a small detail that can really go a long way in changing how a room feels. As a designer, one of the first places my eye goes to in a room is the area rug. In this instance, bigger is oftentimes better as the rug is doing the heavy lifting of setting the scale of the room and grounding the main furniture layout. One large rug is a million times better than one (or more!)
Wondering how if there are any tricks to help figure out just how big you can go with your area rug?
If possible, all furniture for a seating area should sit fully on the rug.
It may make sense to leave walkways clear of area rugs depending on the space planning and room size.
In a dining room, the area rug should be large enough that the chairs remain fully on the rug when pulled out (figure 3’ beyond the edge of the table)
In a bedroom the rug should be the same width as the bed and bedside tables
