Are Gray Floors OUT?

Whether they were hardwood, engineered wood or vinyl plank, it seemed like gray-toned floors were going in left and right up to a few years ago. But what about now? Is gray out?

Yes! The true cool gray floors have fallen to the wayside when it comes to trends. As gray generally has trended out in favor of warmer taupes and beiges we are seeing an upswing in lighter blonde wood floors.

If you’re preparing to redo floors in your home, or you are specifying for a new build and considering light floors they are a fabulous neutral backdrop to a variety of design styles and color schemes. Do you love the look of gray floors? Consider a warmer gray - if you are refinishing hardwood you can consider doing a blend of gray and natural stain (try 1/3 + 2/3) and it will have gray undertones without being too cool, making it feel a little more timeless.

Do you have gray floors and love them? That’s great! My number one rule with trends is to do what YOU love.

Do you have gray floors and you’re ready for more warmth? Beige or wheat colored area rugs are your friend. I would look for something neutral that will bridge the gap between the cool floors and the warmth that you’re planning on decorating throughout the rest of the home. You could also place a rug that has both the gray and tan to introduce both colors together.
