The Trending Kitchen Backsplash of 2024
There is one backsplash trend that we have been seeing everywhere in 2024: the stone slab backsplash. This is where, rather than installing tile that coordinates with the stone countertop, you carry the same slab as the countertop on to the backsplash.
This can be done with any countertop material - quartzite, granite, marble and even manmade materials. The beauty here is that it lets the stone shine and provides a gorgeous contrast to the surrounding cabinetry. If you select a natural stone that has beautiful veining this is also a way to highlight the beauty of that natural element.
A benefit of selecting a slab backsplash over tile is that there aren’t any grout lines for messes to get stuck in. Rather, it’s a solid surface that can easily be wiped. You still need to be cautious with your material selection when it comes to staining and etching, but that goes for tile materials as well as the countertop itself.
The main drawback in selecting a stone backsplash is the cost. While tile backsplashes have a wide price range, slab backsplashes have a higher price point generally due to the cost of the stone and the labor of installation and fabrication. Manmade products are typically less expensive than natural stone, so if you are planning a kitchen renovation and hoping this backsplash style fits into your budget, that could be a good starting point for you.
What do you think? Is a solid slab backsplash something that you’d look at for an upcoming kitchen renovation? Is it already on your dream kitchen wish list?
