Is Taupe The New Grey?
I was perusing Pinterest today, and scrolled past an Elle Decor article headline posing the question whether taupe was the new grey. And, I think it is.
Years ago - in the ‘90s and early ‘00s - beige and tan were the neutral du jour. Things were very warm-toned. We swung through taupe on our way to grey in the 2010s when it seemed like everything was grey and white. Now, taupe is back. The neutrals we are seeing in interior design have definitely started to warm back up.
Could it be that it’s the pendulum swinging us back to warmer neutrals? Perhaps, as brown is starting to trend in both interiors and fashion, which I haven’t seen in ages. But I also think its due to another trend happening in the design industry as well.
We’re seeing much more color in interiors, and taupe plays better with deeper, richer colors than cooler grey does, especially when the end goal for a lot of these designs is the sense of warmth and comfort. That’s something that taupe offers that a cool grey doesn’t.
