How To: Work With Gray Floors

You may have seen our earlier post on whether or not gray floors are out. Unfortunately, the trend is moving away from gray and towards a lighter blonde wood. But what do you do if you have gray and you want to move your aesthetic towards that warmer look?

  1. Add rugs

Rugs are your friend here. They’ll cover some of the gray that you’re no longer a fan of, but also bring in the tones that you want to introduce on that same plane. I would keep things neutral OR look for something that has they gray + the colors or tones that you’re looking to introduce or decorate with in the rest of the space. You don’t want to completely ignore the gray here, but work with it and then balance it out.

  2. Warm up your walls

If your walls are gray or white, it might be time to add some color or warmth there. Again we need to work on integrating the gray, so have a plan on what colors and tones you want to mix, and then work on finding a color that pulls everything together. Ready for some options?

  3. If you have MORE gray - swap art and accessories

If you were decorating during grey’s heyday you may have a lot of gray happening. I would start small, because you’re likely not ready to refinish floors, replace sofas and redo it all yet. Start with paint, rugs and accessories and see where that takes you.

If you are ready for a full redesign and aren’t sure what’s next after gray, OR you just aren’t sure how to work it in to a refresh, Abode Virtual Design is here to help!
