Raised Ranch Primary Bath Retreat | Part I

Sharing a completed project today, and as always, we’re starting with the floor plan. These clients came to us after the demo was partially under way - they realized that they weren’t sure what to do once they finished that step. The bath is a primary bathroom in a raised ranch, so the footprint is small, and they had two more spaced to complete, so budget was also something to keep in mind.

As for they layout - nothing changed! The shower was an old fiberglass insert, so that was removed, and we relocated the drain to a linear drain along the side wall rather than in the center. This is a great change up, especially if your shower footprint is tiny - no need to be standing on the drain if you can help it. We added in a niche in the opposite wall from the shower pluming (I recommend putting those in hidden walls whenever possible!) and swapping to a frameless door to help keep things feeling as expansive as we can.

The vanity is only 24”W, so you’ll see there’s a mirror next to the shower entrance. That’s actually the clients existing three-door medicine cabinet. We left that so they could use every ounce of space they had when storage is at a premium. Another trick we added was an integrated LED mirror. Typically, I prefer to do side sconces in bathrooms rather than one over the mirror, as the latter can cast shadows especially when shaving or doing makeup. Because there wasn’t the space here, the LED mirror allows for the extra light without the bulk. We did keep the sconce above as well.

The general design direction was a fresh, spa-like feel with hints of natural elements. The couple wanted something that felt bright and soothing. They also love to get outdoors frequently, so we opted for lots of natural stone, including pebble tile on the shower floor. Sage green walls with bright white trim and accents carried that through, and we added in a warm wood floating shelf with accessories over the toilet to keep the natural elements.

Check back next week for part 2 for more renderings and all of the finish and accessory selections! See you soon!
